There are many stories of warriors.

But when the war is fought and the corpses have been cleared from the battlefields, what becomes of the soldier?

If we are to learn anything from history or literature about war it is that warriors are born.

Those who fight may be coerced.

But those for whom battle is second-nature. And conflict is the structure of their lives. What do they do?

How is the warrior to fulfill his purpose when he is no longer called upon?

There is a man who was a warrior, but never fought in a battle, nor did he ever take a human life.

He fought the hardest battle of all. For how much more difficult is a battle in which you cannot physically fight back?

True warriors will see the truth in this. For in them the warrior's spirit burns red hot like the forge where a sword might be tempered.

And these men and women know: A true battle is one worth fighting. And any true battle is one in which you are hopelessly outnumbered and outgunned.

For the true warrior realizes this as well: It is the meaning of the death, the reason behind it, and the life that the death stands for that changes the world.

The corpses are a byproduct. The loss of life a regrettable necessity to battle. What matters is the meaning. It's impact.

This is the understanding of the true warrior. That they have not died in vain. That through their life and death they have showed something.

And that someone will see it.
